Yesterday I had the honor of attending a memorial service. This event always brings up our own losses of those we love that have passed and no longer here with us. The meaning of life is examined by each of us in a different way and some do not feel the need to look deeper in to the subject at all.
The service was for a local man to what we refer to as the Eastern Shore. The breath of his life has had enormous reach. The displays accommodated his sense of nature, and given his profession of Veterinarian he was truly a man of earthlike substance.
The stories, as in most lives, were of quirky moments that stuck with those people telling it, and stuck with those who were told the story. He seemed to be about the stories. Humor played a huge role in his persona and there were countless stories of the jokes he told. It put a smile on the face of the person listening when you think of the jokes told by this person.
Big moments of his care for animals came flowing but you knew there were thousands more than time allowed this day.
Generations of family attended and it was apparent that he had a relationship with each one of these people. There was adopted family from another country who contributed letters of heartfelt expression.
Brothers spoke and delivered their take on the man’s life with goodness and grace, and with humor of also. The love permeated each who spoke and all who were in attendance.
Does the word WOW cover it? Truly, it was a rewarding experience just to be there for the memorial of such a person.
As it happens, Life takes hold and the chemistry can change who you are. Unless, you change life by whom you become.
